Thought of the Day: Cinco De Mayo

by TheKittyMan on May.05, 2010, under Thought of the Day

It would’ve been PERFECT if the Xbox Live Marketplace gave away free sombreros for avatars today. I mean, absolutely perfect.

Or possibly racist…

Whatever. FIESTA TIME!

Thought of the Day: Achievements

by TheKittyMan on Apr.05, 2010, under Thought of the Day

It seems that we’re all getting a little too caught up in achievements and trophies. The game aspect of gaming seems to have been lost in the fray of core gameplay and storytelling. The GamerScore seems to have taken the place of fun. I don’t play Modern Warfare 2 for fun anymore. TITLES AND EMBLEMS! I tend to not have fun unless I’m going for a goal that’s as trivial as an achievement. Even games like Galaga and Uno have achievements. What happened to just having fun with the game?

Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go play more crappy stimulus package playlist. Double Exp afterall…

Thought of the Day: Music Games

by TheKittyMan on Apr.04, 2010, under Thought of the Day

So it turns out that the entire American Idiot album will be in Green Day: Rock Band , which is cool, but why is this game being made? I saw this story and looked around at my guitar stand, drum set, mics, and my other peripherals and it made me a little bit sad.

I understand some innovation and thought behind the products. Adding a mic and drums? Awesome. Making a 5 piece drum set with two set symbols? Great. A turntable? Interesting.

What does this game bring to the table that couldn’t just be a fucking DLC pack? It’s just more songs that you can export. Which means you either have to pay 10 dollars more to do it, buying the game with the voucher already, or pre-order from GameStop. It’s a great business model I guess. Secure rights to a lot of songs for one band, package the game, profit.

I never touch my copy of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith anymore. It just feels so dumb to pick it up when I have TONS of DLC downloaded for Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I think this could have waited until there was some good reason behind it. Maybe adding a wah pedal that needed to be changed at different points in music. I’m not sure. It just feels like more corporate whoring and the only reason these games take so long to make is to ensure “accuracy” of the guitar notes and drum rhythms along with finishing up all legal issues with rights. The DLC packs don’t bother me so much, but it’s the fact that this is a “new” game and has it’s own disc that sort of bothers me. Provide me with something new to make the purchase worthwhile. Entice me with candy or something. Don’t just say “Here’s our new game. Buy it bitch!”

Needless to say, I’m heading out to pre-order it to add to my growing collection of songs for Rock Band. I love Green Day.

Thought of the Day: Used Games

by TheKittyMan on Apr.03, 2010, under Thought of the Day

I’m not just somebody who jumps on the “I hate GameStop” bandwagon, but somebody who fully understands the business model and execution of said model. I see that it’s an essential rip-off and a sort of pawn shop scheme to re-sell a game over and over with almost no overhead on the products sold. Developers lose out money, can make numbers look bad, possibly has an effect on future products, etc. I get that. I even see some of the other side that it IS a legitimate business and GameStop are just doing what makes money. Capitalism at it’s finest. I also see the “other” other side in which smaller game trading companies (Level 1 Games ftw) get screwed over by a near monopoly of game trading as a whole, despite usually having poor service (except for my local GameStop… I know those guys and they’re good.).

BUT!

I love my “new” Final Fantasy IV for my DS. Wish I had gotten it from Muzz, but it’s cool.
